Rockaby

Rockaby“, written by Samuel Beckett, and produced by his old friend Peter Brook last Saturday in Culture Centre, is probably the most astonishing play I have ever seen in my whole life. Let it be the first time I admit it is worthless to describe the experience in theatre with mere words.

I would not say so in the past since I believe a good story remains vivid outside theatre, but this time, “Rockaby” can only degrade into boredom when told by mouth or depicted by pen. Therefore, I do not attempt to introduce it to anybody, anyway, this is beyond my talent.

“Rockaby” does not come alone, it is performed along with five short pieces in  Art Festival . But I like it most, “Come and Go” the second. In fact, Samuel Beckett is so well-known for his play “Waiting for Godot” and many others, but I have never touched any of them.  A merit of Mr Chin, a few months ago he “urged” me to choose a program of no matter what, and watch with him, finally I chose this and I got shocked when I knew it cost three hundreds something and the show last around one hour only.

Thanks god, I am more than satisfied after the show.

Although some art group criticised the show to be far away from original, but I don’t really care since I don’t really know what is original. All I know is, the show at least demonstrated how Samuel Beckett manages to bring us theatre poems with fruitful images. Shadow lighting, simple sets, repetitive lines and dialogue patterns and the most important thing, deep observations of life, I feel like mesmerized and see something beyond.

I hope this will bring something new to my recent scripts.
